Houghton Macron SL 501

Macron SL 501 is a product based on ester derivative for MQL (minimum amount of lubrication). Macron SL 501 is designed for minimal lubrication. It is used for operations such as drilling, tapping, sawing and reaming with a wide range of materials, such as steel with low to medium tensile strength, yellow metals, titanium and especially aluminium alloys. The product evaporates during processing when used with the correct dosage.

Thousands of litres of metalworking fluid are used in metalworking. A necessary evil to obtain a good machining. At the same time, however, a heavy burden on the environment. The metalworking fluid used, whether or not it contains nitrosamines, sulfur or phosphorus, must be regarded as chemical waste. An important part of this waste stream, however, leaves the factory gate attached to the chips.
However, Macron SL 501 is only dosed at a minimum and thus consumed, this significantly reduces the environmental impact.

Customer Questions
The oxidation of copper present in certain aluminum alloys is the cause of black marks which appear quickly after machining with soluble oil. Is there a product to avoid this problem?
The problem probably lies with the emulsion used. If it has too high a pH then it can cause black staining. What emulsion are you using? Please send us a Technical data sheet of the product. It is not being solved with an anti corrosion product, because the harm is mostly caused by the emulsion being used or the poor remaining quality of it.
