Troubleshooting with smart Lubricant solutions
A couple of our showcases
Contaminated engine
Problem
An increasing percentage of biocomponents have been added to current fuels over the years. This biocomponent can significantly pollute the engine, as can bad fuels. The pollution in the engine depends on the amount of biocomponent, the quality of engine oil and the use of the vehicle (long distances versus short use).
Consequence
A high percentage of biocomponents results in a highly polluted engine. A dirty engine wears out more, has a shorter lifespan, consumes more fuel and produces more noise over time.
Solution
Use a high-quality engine oil that keeps the engine and other components clean. Not every engine oil stays clean until the next drain turn. We at OlieOnline can recommend this for you. So there is no need to worry about this.
Production downtime
Problem
Sometimes we are called with the problem that the gear drive has failed. Gear drive is the critical drive in a production process. Failure of the drive can cause a complete production shutdown of the plant.
Consequence
The consequence of one of a stalled production process is incalculable. It costs money, irritation, man-hours to fix it, planning goes haywire, etcetera.
Solution
The faulty drive is the bottleneck in the production process. In this situation, it turned out that a lot of optimisation was possible. Because there is very limited maintenance that can be done, we opted for a synthetic gear oil with a longer drain interval. This significantly slowed the oil's ageing process, enabled it to handle higher temperatures and kept the gear teeth protected over a longer period of time. The result is less production downtime in the plant.
Bearing Damage
Problem
Many man-hours have to be spent on lubricating bearings in high-temperature applications. In the temporary absence of this lubrication, machines become overloaded and bearing damage quickly occurs, with all its consequences. We often see lubrication with a multi-purpose "EP" grease here as well.
Consequence
Because bearings need frequent lubrication, many man-hours are required. If lubrication is not carried out consistently, material supply can be jeopardised, even resulting in production stoppages. In addition, a dangerous situation then arises as the drive becomes dangerously hot.
Solution
By selecting a high-quality high-temperature grease that has 3x higher purchase costs, lubrication intervals decrease by a factor of 4 and the drives no longer get excessively hot. It also often leads to less production downtime. AND it saves on personnel costs.

The OEM / machine builder should at least provide a viscosity for recommended oil. They know the dimensions, pumppressure, seals, fibrations, tolerance, operation temperatures etc etc. For grease they should at least provide the NLGI class of the grease. This stiffness of the grease is critical to correct operation and lubrication.
Often they lack deep knowledge of Lubricants so then we are happy to step in and help you select the right lubricant to fullfil the requirements. This depends on lubrication interfals, criticallity of the machine in the production process, cost of downtime, repair cost of spareparts and any other needs like foodgrade, noise reduction or energy saving.
